What "no upload" actually means

A conventional online compressor takes your file, transmits it to a server, processes it there, stores the result for a while, and sends it back. Your image sits on infrastructure you do not control, governed by a privacy policy you probably did not read, for a retention period you cannot verify.

PixSqueeze uses the image APIs already built into your browser. When you drop a file in, it is read into memory on your own device, processed there, and handed back as a download. No network request carries your image, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Verify it in thirty seconds

Do not take our word for it — this is genuinely checkable, which is the point.

  1. Open your browser's developer tools (F12, or Cmd+Option+I on a Mac).
  2. Go to the Network tab and clear it.
  3. Compress an image on this page.
  4. Watch the request list. Your file is not in it.

For a holiday snap it does not matter much. For plenty of work it matters a great deal.

Being straight about the boundaries, since a privacy claim is worth nothing without them.

Compression happens locally, always. Separately, this site serves advertising and — only if you agree to it — analytics, both of which involve third-party scripts like any ad-supported site. Those never touch your images, and you can decline them from the consent dialog or the privacy policy page at any time.

Note also that compressing an image does not reliably strip its metadata. If you need to remove GPS coordinates or camera details before sharing a photo, use a dedicated metadata tool as well.

Are my images uploaded when I compress them here?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using local image APIs. Your files are never transmitted, so nothing is stored on any server.

How can I verify nothing is uploaded?

Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and compress an image — your file will not appear in any request. You can also disconnect from the internet after the page loads and compress offline.

Is this safe for confidential or client work?

Yes, and that is the main reason it exists. Because files never leave your device, there is no third-party processor involved, which is what usually causes the problem with online tools in regulated or NDA-bound work.

Does compressing remove EXIF and GPS data?

Not reliably — compression and metadata removal are different operations. If you need to strip location or camera information before sharing an image, use a dedicated metadata tool in addition to compressing.
